Florida State is recruiting with one hand tied behind its back in the 2027 cycle. With Mike Norvell on a scorching-hot seat, recruits and donors alike seem to be in wait-and-see mode. Well, most recruits, anyway.

A select few, 16 to be exact, have signed up for what could be a bumpy ride to the Early Signing Period this coming December, and the latest, Ta’Shawn Poole, chose the Seminoles over plenty of other suitors.

The top-100 safety from Georgia had been trending to FSU since his visit to Tallahassee this spring, and on Friday, he committed to the program, choosing the Noles over Georgia and Tennessee.

Poole is the highest-rated player in Florida State’s 2027 class, which now ranks No. 40 in the country, a significant improvement from where it stood last week before pickups of Poole and four-star safety Za’Kari Johnson.

The class will never reach Florida State’s lofty standards, but considering the circumstances, it’s a promising group.

Florida State adds INF Callum Early from Texas

The transfer portal cycle in college baseball is considerably more drawn out than other sports, but with the MLB Draft growing smaller in the rearview mirror, Link Jarrett is getting closer to putting the finishing touches on his 2027 Florida State roster.

His starting rotation is already set, but the lineup needed more depth, and on Monday, he took another step towards addressing that with the commitment of Texas transfer Callum Early. The younger brother of Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Connelly Early, Callum appeared in just 11 games for the Longhorns last season with five at-bats.

In 2025, Early was a regular starter for Liberty, hitting .295 with two home runs and 15 RBIs as a freshman. Florida State was able to win the second baseman’s commitment over South Carolina and West Virginia. He is FSU’s fifth position player transfer pickup:

  • Jackson McKenzie, 1B (FAMU)
  • Coy Clements, C (JUCO)
  • Cooper Malamazian, SS (Indiana)
  • Nick Barron, 1B (Northwestern)
  • Callum Early, 2B (Texas)

More: Lajae Jones helps lift Warriors to Summer League title

A St. Bonaventure transfer who began his college career at Tarleton State, Lajae Jones starred for Florida State in head coach Luke Loucks’ first season, averaging 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. Then, it was off to the NBA for the versatile 6-foot-7 wing.

While he’s yet to make his official debut, the No. 54 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft has already made an impact for his new team, helping lift the Golden State Warriors to the NBA Summer League title. He averaged 8.7 points and 3.3 rebounds during Golden State’s 5-1 run in the Vegas Summer League, which culminated with a championship on Sunday night.

Jones played 10 minutes in the championship game and scored four points while shooting 2-5 from the field.
