With another week of competition set to kick off, it is time for another edition of the Florida State news roundup. The Seminoles' football team is just getting back to town after a 50-36 loss to No. 10 Alabama, while the fans appear to be taking on the role of search committee for the next coach before Mike Norvell's buyout has been finalized.
Florida State reportedly looking into bringing former coach Jimbo Fisher back
Perhaps the biggest bit of news from the past few days came in the form of a potential familiar coaching option returning to Tallahassee. Florida State has reportedly been "looking into" the possibility of bringing back former coach Jimbo Fisher, who is currently working as a studio analyst for the ACC Network.
Fisher finished his original tenure with Florida State after the 2017 season, when the coach took on a new role after accepting the Texas A&M job. Fisher was subsequently bought out by the Aggies during the 2023 season for a record $77.5 million. Florida State and Fisher had plenty of success together, including 83 wins, three ACC titles, and the 2013 National Championship win.
Hiring Fisher would admittedly be the cheapest option for Florida State, but the reduced price tag for the coach is only present because Texas A&M paid him a ridiculous sum of money just to leave. The potentially problematic rehire is beginning to pick up steam with some of the fanbase, but there is still a good portion of the fans that do not want to see Fisher return.
Volleyball faces difficult back-to-back conference matches against Miami
The Florida State volleyball team is nearly back to work, as the Miami Hurricanes will be the opponent for the next two matches. The Seminoles will host Miami on September 23 in Tully Gymnasium for what should be one of the most exciting matches of the year. Florida State is fresh off a four-set loss to No. 10 Florida that delivered a thrilling experience for the fans in the crowd.
After facing the Hurricanes in Tallahassee, Florida State will make the trip over to Coral Gables on September 27 for the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. Miami is currently 2-7 on the season, and the road to get to this point was certainly not pretty. The Hurricanes lost 20 sets in a row before finally defeating LSU in four sets.
The Seminoles have had some ups and downs on the court this season, with a record of 5-5 that includes an upset win over No. 16 Kansas. The talent is certainly there; Florida State just needs to find a way to limit mistakes moving forward.

The women's soccer team will officially be back in action on September 27 against Louisville for the second ACC game of the season. The Seminoles are coming off a hard-fought 2-2 draw against NC State, where the team battled back to prevent the loss. Florida State will be traveling to Kentucky to face the 8-1-1 Cardinals in another difficult ACC challenge.
Louisville is the team to beat in the ACC at the moment, and the Seminoles will be heading into Kentucky at the wrong time. Florida State is currently 4-1-2, with the team struggling to consistently develop scoring chances.

2027 and beyond appear to be a complete question mark for Florida State, but that does not mean the staff has not been working diligently on adding to the recruiting classes. The Seminoles recently sent cornerbacks coach Blue Adams out to visit a UNC committed defensive back in Texas.
Trey Johnson, a three-star recruit, previously announced his commitment to the Tar Heels back in May, but Florida State has never gone away. The Seminoles continue to keep contact open with Johnson despite the entire staff likely hitting the curb ahead of the 2027 season. The flip situation is something to monitor, but Florida State would need a rather aggressive push to flip Johnson.
