Florida State fans will have to wait until Friday at 6:00 p.m. ET to know whether four-star safety Ta’Shawn Poole is choosing the Seminoles over Georgia and Tennessee. However, according to Poole, that decision has already been made, and Mike Norvell and general manager John Garrett likely already know what it is.

“Yeah, I have,” Poole told 247Sports’ Benjamin Wolk for an article that was published on Tuesday morning, finalizing the time of his announcement and previewing his decision. “I really made that decision in my mind after the official visit to the school."

That’s good news for Florida State, which has been considered the favorite to land the top-100 recruit since he took his trip to Tallahassee this spring. The Leesburg, Georgia, native is the No. 64 recruit in the country by 247Sports and the No. 6 safety.

Ousmane Kromah down almost 10 pounds

Ousmane Kromah had a solid true freshman season, but for Florida State’s offense to reach its ceiling in 2026, he’ll need to be even better. Likely taking over the RB1 role, even with Texas transfer Quintrevion Wisner arriving via the transfer portal, Kromah will need to be more explosive to maximize his value in the backfield. And it seems as though he understands that.

Florida State updated its roster this week, heading into ACC Media Days and before fall camp. Kromah is now listed at 216 pounds, down nine pounds from 225, which he played at in high school and was previously listed at on the FSU roster.

Kromah is a big running back who is tough to tackle, so if he can retain that level of physicality while improving his long speed at a lighter weight, he’ll deliver on the promise he had as a blue-chip recruit and Florida State’s top-ranked player in the 2025 class.

Tom Herman hired as assistant to Mike Norvell

Before Monday, Florida State did not have an assistant coach on its staff with previous FBS head coaching experience. That’s a dangerous spot to be in when there’s a good chance you’re going to fire your head coach midseason. So, it would seem that FSU found its interim head coach… just in case it needs one, by hiring Tom Herman as an assistant to Norvell.

Herman last coached in college football in 2024 when he was fired midseason as head coach of FAU after a 2-8 start to his second season in Boca Raton. His resume is not enticing at this point, but the former head coach of the Texas Longhorns would be the obvious choice to keep the ship from sinking if FSU decides it's time to move on from Norvell midway through the 2026 campaign.

More: 7 Seminoles selected in the MLB Draft

Link Jarrett has done his best to prepare for a pitching staff exodus in the 2026 MLB Draft, and it came over the weekend with Wes Mendes, Trey Beard, and Bryson Moore all being selected in the draft. The Seminoles' three starting pitchers were part of a seven-player group that heard their names called:

  • Wes Mendes: No. 47, Houston Astros
  • Myles Bailey: No. 75, Chicago Cubs
  • Brayden Dowd: No. 88, Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Trey Beard: No. 174, Miami Marlins
  • Bryson Moore: No. 198, Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Cole Stokes: No. 353, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Brodie Purcell: No. 362, Cincinnati Reds

More: PA Announcer blindsided

Longtime public address announcer at Doak Campbell Stadium, Woody Hayes, spoke out after last week’s news that he would not be returning for a 17th year in the role. Florida State has not publicly explained the decision, and it seems that it has not explained it to Hayes himself either, who told WCTV that he was “blindsided” and “deeply hurt” by the decision.

“I tried to get more answers than what I got, and I was met with, ’We’re going in a new direction,'” Hayes told WCTV. “I brought up another subject. We’re going in a new direction. I’m more than happy to take constructive criticism, but I’ve received nothing like that.”

Florida State has also not yet announced its replacement for Hayes, who has been a staple for Seminoles fans on Saturdays in the fall.
