Florida State went to the transfer portal to add Auburn's Ashton Daniels at the quarterback position. The Seminoles now have Ashton Daniels, Kevin Sperry, and Jaden O'Neal in the room. Florida State was involved with other quarterback transfers such as Florida's DJ Lagway and UNLV's Anthony Colandrea.

However, they decided to go in a different direction. The fan base wanted Sperry to be QB1 this upcoming season since the Seminoles have gone to the transfer portal the past two years with DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos, who didn't pan out.

The offense under coordinator Gus Malzahn doesn't require the quarterback position to be special, but it needs to be good enough to be effective if the defense loads the box for the running game.

JUCO quarterback prospect Malachi Marshall schedules a visit with Florida State

The fan base sees that there are three quarterbacks on the roster and feels like that will be enough. However, it is important to note that they don't want a true freshman Jaden O'Neal to be a backup if something were to happen and would prefer the four-star signee to grow and develop in Year 1.

Nonetheless, the Seminoles already tried their hand at adding a JUCO signal-caller earlier with an offer to Tre Guerra from Tyler, Texas. He had 2,811 yards with 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions this past season (according to Tyler Junior College Athletics website).

Fans were concerned about the number of turnovers by Guerra. It looked to be an evaluation by the coaching staff, but they have circled their attention to someone else in JUCO quarterback Malachi Marshall, who had 33 touchdowns and only eight interceptions last season and is considered the number one quarterback JUCO prospect in the country, according to 247Sports Composite.

According to a report from Noles247, Marshall will be visiting Florida State next weekend (January 17-18). This would be a move where he could provide depth as a backup and could maybe compete for a starting spot during his final season in 2027.
