The worst news Florida State could have received this season is now official, as starting running back Ousmane Kromah has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Kromah broke a tackle at full speed before a defender fell on the back of his leg, and when the running back attempted to get back up under his own power, he could not.

The training staff applied an air cast to the ankle of Kromah almost immediately, which was not a good sign. Shortly after, the cart came out to take Kromah off the field as Florida State resumed play against Miami. Quarterback Ashton Daniels ran in a touchdown after Kromah was carted off the field and celebrated by putting up "32" on his fingers.

An update was given this morning about the status of Kromah's injury, and his family was able to confirm that the running back had dislocated and fractured multiple bones in his ankle. Kromah received surgery last night to fix the issues and is currently recovering from the surgery.

There are rarely positive thoughts when the cart comes out, and unfortunately, the severity of Kromah's injury is what many had expected. It is going to be a long recovery period for the running back, but with major structural damage avoided, Kromah will be able to resume his football career in the near future.

The injury comes at a difficult time for Kromah, as the running back had been averaging nearly 94 rushing yards per game. Kromah will finish the season with 114 carries for 609 yards and five touchdowns, with an additional 97 receiving yards. Kromah also notably did not fumble this season, which is impressive for someone who carries the football as physically and violently as the running back does.

For Florida State, the injury is an absolute disaster as the running back room has been falling apart piece by piece this season. Samuel Singleton Jr., who was viewed as part of a one-two punch with Kromah, suffered an injury that required him to miss a "significant amount of time," but a return this season was not fully ruled out. The hope surrounding a return from Singleton started to fade quickly, however.

Two weeks ago, Florida State dismissed FAU transfer running back Gemari Sands, which cut down the running back depth to Kromah, Tre Wisner, Amari Thomas, and Zay Parks. The dismissal applied more pressure to Kromah and Wisner to find ways to be perfect since there was nobody to clean up any mistakes or injuries.

The pressure is now squarely on the shoulders of Wisner without Kromah, Singleton, or Sands in the picture moving forward. Wisner was already taking on a new role without Singleton backing up Kromah, but now the bulk of the carries will be his.

Thomas and Parks are both capable players, but the duo only have 18 carries combined at the collegiate level. It is arguably too late in the season to get both players up to game speed and into a position to produce. One or both of the running backs will need to step up since Florida State cannot just run Wisner out onto the field for every snap.
