Florida State basketball got off to a slow start in the transfer portal window, but finally secured its first addition in former McDonald’s All-American Shon Abaev on Monday. Luke Loucks is wasting no time looking to acquire a player who would fill some major holes in the lineup.

Colorado’s Sebastian Rancik is visiting Florida State, and he would be a massive get for Luke Loucks. There are lots of parallels between Loucks and Rancik. Loucks played professional basketball overseas in Latvia and Germany after graduating from Florida State, and Rancik was born in Slovenia before playing high school basketball in California.

Where did Luke Loucks coach in the NBA? The Golden State Warriors. Rancik stands 6’11” but doesn’t play like a typical big man. He can move with the ball in his hands and shoot it well from the three-point line.

He averaged 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and shot 33.1 percent from the floor and 86 percent from the free-throw line last season. He’s not your typical rim protector and glass cleaner on the boards, but he moves well and creates space on the court. Check out some of the footage below:

Rancik is a player who would be an immediate contributor, and Luke Loucks should pull out all of the stops to get him to commit before leaving campus.

The improvement in production between his freshman and sophomore seasons is the type of progression you want to see in a player. I could see him averaging 15 points and six or seven rebounds per game in Luke Loucks system. There’s a lot to like about his game since he can score from nearly every area on the court. His handles are good enough to create a shot off of one or two dribbles. He can score in the post and is deadly from the free-throw line.

He has a great looking shot, and if he can improve his three-point shooting to 35 percent or better? He would be a nightmare to guard at FSU.
