Florida State's 2027 recruiting class is nothing special right now because it ranks outside the top-20. Most of the fan base wants the Seminoles to finish inside the top-10, but they have not done so during the era of head coach Mike Norvell.
This shouldn't be pointed towards Norvell not focusing on recruiting or even being a bad recruiter, but something has to change about the philosophy. However, with seven wins in two years, the fan base's patience is thin (for good reason).
Our very own Kelvin Hunt discussed four-star quarterback target Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV from Vero Beach, Florida, receiving a crystal ball prediction in favor of Notre Dame from 247Sports Recruiting Analyst Tom Loy.
This is a disappointing crystal ball prediction to digest because Monds IV was a signal-caller that the Seminoles have been on for a while, plus Florida State added new front office members to help with the high school recruiting and transfer portal acquisitions.
Florida State seems to have its quarterback in the 2027 cycle now in three-star Logan Flaherty
This isn't to say that Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV is some generational quarterback talent, but he was a talented piece that the Seminoles could build from. Obviously, the recruitment isn't over after just one crystal ball prediction to Notre Dame.
However, Monds IV is fresh off an unofficial visit with the Fighting Irish. Ohio State was another school involved in the recruitment, but it was difficult to see the signal-caller wanting to be part of the Buckeyes' two-quarterback class.
As a result, Florida State will have to find another quarterback to go after if Monds IV does commit to Notre Dame. The one option that makes sense is three-star Logan Flaherty from Port Charlotte, Florida, who is committed to UCF.
It is difficult to get prospects to flip to other schools after being pledged elsewhere, but Flaherty is someone who has visited the Seminoles several times. With that said, the fan base will probably be frustrated with Florida State going after a three-star after losing out on Monds IV, who is a four-star.
Flaherty did have 2,636 passing yards with 27 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions, adding 595 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground during his junior season last year (according to MaxPreps). This wouldn't be a bad backup option for the Seminoles to consider, but it is disappointing to waste all of that time for Monds IV if they lose him to Notre Dame.
