Florida State latest transfer QB adds much needed depth and experience for 2026

Improvement over what FSU had at QB3

Florida State added a second transfer quarterback on Friday when Lafayette’s Dean DeNobile committed to the Noles. Some FSU fans are likely wondering why FSU made such a move. The most likely reason is they need depth and experience, especially since incoming four-star QB Jaden O’Neal suffered an injury that will cause him to miss the 2026 season.

DeNobile has three years of starting experience at the NCAA FCS Division I level in the Patriot League. He’s a career 65 percent passer and averaged 211 passing yards per game last season. He’s not much of a threat on the ground, but that’s not that big of a deal if he’s completing passes at that rate.

He has thrown 23 interceptions on 948 pass attempts, compared to 53 touchdowns. He only took 10 sacks in 2025 on 347 pass attempts.

Also, let’s be real, if DeNobile’s in the game, FSU is either getting blown out or blowing someone out. If he’s starting, the season is probably over anyway, but he probably gives you more than freshman Jaden O’Neal because of his college experience.

Florida State fans will probably poo poo the move, but it makes sense when you're not trying to spend a lot of money

However, DeNobile fits the description of what FSU general manager John Garrett looks for in a quarterback. Someone who makes quick decisions, avoids turnovers, and is a leader. DeNobile was team captain the last two years at Lafayette.

He has one year of eligibility remaining. FSU signing DeNobile likely didn’t cost much, and gives FSU a guy who can be solid on the scout team or in an emergency situation.
