Florida State football has had its best time during head coach Mike Norvell's time here. However, Norvell has the opportunity to turn the ship around after having play-calling duties once again in 2026 after offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired this offseason.

Coach Norvell was given another chance by the administration to be retained for the 2026 season, and he has to make the most of his opportunity. The problem is that Norvell is not given a chance by many outsiders who have him firmly in the mix of the hot-seat talk.

He cannot listen to the doubters, as the Seminoles have enough on their plates. There will always be people cheering in your corner. For example, Florida State defeated Alabama in the season opener last year, and everyone thought that they would be College Football Playoff contenders, but they crumbled under pressure.

The focus should be on getting his team ready for the current year and on building the roster for sustainability. You would think that high school recruits would have tuned out Mike Norvell and Florida State, but the Seminoles are still attracting top talent to campus.

Florida State is battling Georgia for four-star wide receiver Sean Green

Speaking of top recruits, Class of 2027 four-star wide receiver Sean Green from Kingsland, Georgia, was recently on campus at Florida State for a visit. Green has been someone that the Seminoles have been recruiting for quite some time.

However, the home-state Georgia Bulldogs have been a team heavily involved in his recruitment. Assistant coach Tim Harris Jr. has done a tremendous job recruiting for the position and looks to be one of the best recruiters on the Florida State coaching staff.

Green's two leaders that he mentioned were Florida State and Georgia. He has an official visit with the Seminoles scheduled for June 5th, but things could start heating up for the program as On3's Steve Wiltfong recently put in a prediction in favor of Florida State for the talented pass catcher.

This would be the Seminoles' first wide receiver prospect in their 2027 recruiting class, and it could speed up the process of finding their future quarterback.
