Florida State football finished with a 5-7 record during the 2025 season, so it is difficult for the fan base to laugh at anyone other than themselves. However, the Seminoles have to play a difficult schedule in 2026 that could set a barometer for how the program is.

This is Florida State, and the expectation of the program is competing for championships. However, it is hard to keep that same mindset when they have won seven games in the past two years. Head football coach Mike Norvell has to do a better job of getting wins.

Florida State has never been afraid of playing opponents with great difficulty. Legendary head football coach Bobby Bowden made a living off of playing a team anywhere and anytime. He eventually built the Seminoles into the championship program that they are.

Alabama loses two highly-touted transfers in the portal

Fans across the country are starting to lose interest in college football nowadays, with constant movement and a lack of loyalty to the programs that they started with. The transfer portal is shaping college football into a glorified free agency with no limitations.

Florida State will play Alabama in 2026, which was previously known as an elite program under the guidance of legendary head football coach Nick Saban. However, Saban unexpectedly decided to retire at the conclusion of the 2023 season.

As a result, the Crimson Tide hired former Washington head football coach Kalen DeBoer. It is difficult to bring in a coach after a legend has left a place like Alabama. His tenure in Tuscaloosa has not been up to par with the fans' expectations, and he even lost to Florida State by two possessions.

Alabama had a commitment from North Carolina State running back transfer Hollywood Smothers, which was big news for the offense in 2026. Then, the Crimson Tide hosted Auburn wide receiver transfer Cam Coleman on a visit.

It looked to be encouraging updates for both prospects, but they ended up committing to the Texas Longhorns on Sunday.

It doesn't look like Alabama was able to keep up with the resources that Texas offered. Defensive coordinator Tony White has to be happy that he doesn't have to deal with game planning around containing Hollywood Smothers and Cam Coleman when the Seminoles go to Tuscaloosa next season.

Alabama will already be looking to prove a point after Florida State beat them in 2025. However, the Crimson Tide will potentially be starting a redshirt freshman quarterback who doesn't have any experience. It has to make the fan base feel better about the game at this time.
