There’s no denying that the pressure is on Mike Norvell to deliver in 2026, or it could cost him his job. After back-to-back losing seasons, Florida State needs a bounce-back, and that all starts in fall camp, which opened on Wednesday, July 29.
The Seminoles begin the year against New Mexico State in Week 0 on Saturday, August 29, so Norvell has a month to get things right in Tallahassee. Here’s a full guide to fall camp for the 2026 season.

Position battles to watch
OL - Everyone but Xavier Chaplin
Last year, FSU imported five new starters through the transfer portal. The trouble was they were all in their final year of eligibility, so the Noles had to do it again. It will likely be four transfer starters, with Andre Otto the likely fit at left guard, but aside from Xavier Chaplin at left tackle, nearly every position is up for grabs.
The most clear battles will come on the right side. Bradyn Welch-Joiner seems to have the upper hand on Chavez Thompson at center, but right guard and right tackle could be any combination of Chimdia Nwaiwu, Nate Pabst, and Paul Bowling. Pabst can play both guard and tackle, while Nwaiwu is a clear tackle and Bowling is a clear guard.
Slot WR - Jayvan Boggs vs. Jasen Lopez
Jayvan Boggs started in Week 1 as a true freshman last year. Then, he managed to play in just eight games due to nagging injuries. Then, after entering the transfer portal before ultimately returning to Tallahassee, Boggs missed much of spring with an injury that has carried over to the start of fall camp.
That has opened the door for true freshman two-sport athlete Jasen Lopez, who is also a member of the FSU basketball team. Lopez and fellow true freshman Devin Carter will both be vying for playing time at wide receiver, and Lopez could surpass Boggs on the depth chart in the slot.
QB2 - Malachi Marshall vs. Kevin Sperry
Everybody loves a backup QB. The question is: who will be in line to take snaps if Daniels falters or suffers an injury? Stony Brook transfer Malachi Marshall or 2025 four-star Kevin Sperry.
Norvell and his staff have failed to develop a homegrown talent at QB, so Sperry winning the job would seemingly be a good sign for the staff, but Marshall has college experience, though it’s at the FCS level, so he could have the upper hand.
Injury updates:
- WR - Jayvan Boggs (undisclosed)
- LB - Mikai Gbayor (undisclosed)
Norvell told the media that Boggs and Gbayor “will be a process to see full participation.” But added that they both are still on track to be ready by Week 0 against New Mexico State.
