Florida State football has not had any positive traction in recruiting since securing four-star defensive end Anthony Cavallaro in late January. The program is ranked as the 21st-best in the most recent 247Sports Composite for the 2027 cycle.
The Seminoles have only five commitments to show for their hard work of getting elite prospects to campus. However, it looks like Florida State is putting all the pressure on making a good impression during the official visit in the summer to ensure the prospect says yes to the Garnet and Gold.
One pledge that Florida State has to ensure that it hangs on to is four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida. Many schools have pursued Williams during his recruitment, including the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes.
Mekhi Williams could shut things down on his Legacy Weekend visit at Florida State
The good news is that Williams came to Florida State for its Legacy Weekend event this weekend, instead of going elsewhere. The Miami Hurricanes are trying to attract him with their recent success, plus head coach Mario Cristobal recruits high school talent very well.
However, the talented defensive back seems to be reminded every time he comes back to campus as to why he chose the Garnet and Gold.

Florida State has secured the commitment of Williams for over a year now and hopes to continue ensuring that Tallahassee is the best place for his services. The good news is that the Ruskin, Florida, native posted on Twitter (X) that he has good news coming soon.
Big news coming soon.

This could mean that he could be locking down his recruitment, which could mean good news for head coach Mike Norvell as well as defensive back coaches Evan Cooper and Blue Adams. Even though shutting down recruitments is a positive thing, the Seminoles have been burned by these decisions (Travis Hunter) and want to see prospects sign before getting excited.
