Five underrated young players who could shine in the last six games of 2024
DE DD HOLMES
Florida State's coaching staff has struck out on some elite prospects via the recruiting trail in the trenches (specifically on the defensive line). The Seminoles' came into the 2024 season where they were excited about constructing the defensive line even with the losses of Braden Fiske, Fabien Lovett Sr., and Jared Verse.
ESPN's Pete Thamel even spoke to various NFL scouts who suggested that the Seminoles' defensive line is one of the best in the country. However, the defensive line has been very inconsistent.
The only player that has played well is defensive tackle Joshua Farmer. Pieces such as him, Patrick Payton, Sione Lolohea, Marvin Jones Jr., and Darrell Jackson Jr. were looking to go professional after this season if they had good statistical seasons.
However, this is looking like a defensive line that could potentially be back for the most part unless they want to take a draft grade dip from the offseason. The common theme is playing younger players on the roster to see what you have for 2025.
My last selection is true freshman defensive end DD Holmes. He was a former four-star prospect who needed some work, but the coaching staff liked his potential. It would be beneficial to see what you have in the guys in-house before taking chances on unproven transfer prospects (I still think they need to recruit defensive ends this recruiting cycle though).
