FSU starting safety Ashlynd Barker will not play tonight after being limited all week in practice with a shoulder injury. Barker had been listed as questionable.

Barker did not finish last week's game against Virginia and coach Mike Norvell said the redshirt junior was being monitored all week during practice. Later reports suggested that Barker was wearing a non-contact jersey all week.

Barker has become a major part of the Seminoles' defense this season. At 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds, Barker has the size to be a physical presence on the back end of the secondary. He was a major surprise during camp and passed up last year's starter, Shyheim Brown, on the depth chart.

Defensive coordinator Tony White unleashed Barker as a situational pass rusher last week against Virginia, and it paid off with a couple of sacks.

Brown, a redshirt senior, will get another shot tonight, and he's going to have to bring his best physical game for the Seminoles' defense to have a shot against a Miami offense that's going to try to overpower them with a big offensive line and punishing ground game.

White talked this week about his need to see the defense finish more plays and, by doing that, it would limit the damage.

"There are so many plays where you talk about [finishing] right? I don't know how many [missed] tackles turn what could be a three-and-seven or eight into a third-and-three or four. That's a big difference right there," White said.

Roydell Williams' status still up in the air

Running back Roydell Williams remains a game-time decision. Williams hasn't played since suffering a lower-leg injury in Week 1 against Alabama. If he can go, Williams will likely be used more on passing downs where he has great value as a blocker in the backfield.

Wide receiver Jayvan Boggs was on the injured list this week, but doesn't appear in the final update, meaning the true freshman is ready to go.
