Fans should be nervous that this arch-rival is getting players drafted in the NFL

This has to be heartbreaking to see from Florida State fans.

Florida State football finished with a 5-7 record last season, and the fan base is at its end with the program after they have suffered through six losing seasons in eight years. This decade has been awful for the Seminoles.

Florida State was built by the legendary Bobby Bowden, but it came with its own set of challenges. However, the Seminoles were once a well-oiled machine with championships in 1993, 1999, and 2013 (could have been 2023 too, if it wasn't for the College Football Playoff Committee's snub).

The 2025 season had so much promise to start the year with a massive victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium. Fans thought that the Seminoles had a serious chance to be championship contenders, but it all went downhill after the overtime loss to Virginia in the fourth game of the season.

Florida State fans should be concerned that the Miami Hurricanes are getting NFL draft picks

The NFL Draft started on Thursday, and Florida State did not have any first-round picks. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as the Seminoles limped to the finish line, losing seven of their final nine games.

However, it should be noted that one of Florida State's biggest arch-rivals, Miami, had three first-round picks on Thursday. They have pass rushers Akheem Mesidor and Rueben Bain Jr., as well as offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.

They had quarterback Carson Beck, offensive tackle Markel Bell, and safety Jakobe Thomas go as Day 2 picks. Meanwhile, Florida State has still not had any draft picks, with Darrell Jackson Jr. probably being the only guaranteed player drafted.

That said, this isn't the best way to sell recruits on the program's vision. High school recruits and transfers want to know that they can be developed at the school they choose and get to the NFL.

Florida State has struggled to get offensive and defensive linemen through the transfer portal and high school recruiting. Miami and head coach Mario Cristobal have continued to dominate on the recruiting trail, but the hesitancy stemmed from the belief that he couldn't produce wins. However, the Hurricanes have now made the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana.

Even though they lost to the Hoosiers, it is a reminder that things are trending in a positive direction. This isn't all to discount Florida State and their ability, but the Seminoles have to turn it around in a hurry.

We are now eighteen Saturdays away from the season opener against New Mexico State on August 29th.
