Florida State football has been a disappointment in 2024, where they have limped to a 1-7 record. This is a Seminoles team with aspirations in the preseason of winning the conference for the second straight season and making it into the College Football Playoff.

However, those goals were crushed through the first two games of the season. We at ChopChat have not sugarcoated this narrative as it is highly frustrating that head football coach Mike Norvell is displaying this type of product on the field in Year 5 of his tenure.

The chatter amongst the fan base is that Norvell will likely need to fire multiple assistant coaches on the staff as well as hire an offensive coordinator who can turn around the offensive unit, which has been terrible this year.

Nonetheless, we all know that ESPN analysts try to grab headlines for attention. We already saw that individuals such as Paul Finebaum and Greg McElroy (SEC bias analysts) were speaking negatively about the Seminoles.

Individuals like to hate Florida State. That isn't anything new, just look back at when the Seminoles won the BCS national championship in 2013. However, the program continues to generate a high amount of TV views on a variety of networks.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith claimed on TV that Florida State should have hired Colorado's Deion Sanders instead of Mike Norvell.

Sanders was a former Seminole player who played defensive back from 1985-1988. He recorded 14 interceptions for Florida State and is arguably one of the best players to wear the garnet and gold.

I understand that he generates a ton of attention among the general public. Plus, I get that Colorado also possesses a 6-2 record while Florida State is 1-7 and always seems to be having bad news every corner that they turn.

Nonetheless, it is fair to wonder how many more years Sanders wants to coach college football. His sons and the talented Travis Hunter are leaving Boulder after this year, and it will be interesting to see how the Buffaloes do in 2025 without their services.

I don't like the idea of getting rid of Norvell due to the large buyout and the fact that you are discounting him after going 23-4 in the previous two years.

However, if he doesn't perform in 2025, the discussion for Prime to Tallahassee could ramp up even further.
