FSU FOOTBALL STATUS
Florida State football is currently on a four-game losing streak, where they are coming off a loss to the Stanford Cardinal by a score of 20-13. This isn't the same program that has quarterback Andrew Luck under center.
Head football coach Mike Norvell has fans questioning about his job status in Tallahassee. This is expected after the Seminoles finished with a 2-10 record in 2024. However, many thought that they would be significantly improve in 2025 with 7/8 wins being the expectation.
Florida State is sitting at 3-4 and winning out would make the program have an 8-4 record. However, winning five straight games seems very unlikely, especially since the Seminoles are 5-15 in their last 20 games.
IS MIKE NORVELL GOING TO MAKE IT?
Florida State made a statement on Monday that they are fully committed to Mike Norvell and the Seminoles for the remainder of the 2025 season and will complete a comprehensive assessment at the end of the year.
Some think that Norvell could get canned before the season ends. This is not an opportunity for me to write about bringing pitchforks to Tallahassee, but this head football coach has had success at Florida State.
This comprehensive assessment at the end of the year tells that they currently don't have the money to fire Norvell with his $54 million buyout, plus they are still paying on the stadium renovations and the football-only facility that they just built.
There is a possibility that they just give Coach Norvell more resources to make this thing at Florida State become productive (more money for roster management with adding players). This is because college football has jobs out there available such as Florida and even more that could open up like Auburn, LSU, Texas (Sark taking a job in the NFL?).
If there aren't any good candidates that they feel like could compete for championships, what is the point of firing Norvell for a coach with a smaller school that is unproven (unless they think they can get an unemployed Jimbo Fisher or James Franklin).
The last two years at Florida State have been below the standard, but I believe that the Seminoles are stuck in playing the "waiting game".
