Florida State football has been active during the transfer portal window this offseason. The Seminoles want to turn their losing ways into something legendary for the 2026 campaign.
Unfortunately, a majority of the fan base has given up on head football coach Mike Norvell and the squad that he is bringing in this season, even before they play a snap. It comes with the territory of having four losing seasons during the six years of his tenure at Florida State.
Individuals were hoping that the roster could be flipped in the transfer portal window to give themselves a chance at being competitive. Let's face it, a five-loss Duke squad won the conference.
Florida State had a couple of needs that it wanted to address this offseason: quarterback, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, and linebacker.
DJ Lagway is committed to Baylor, but his decision is still open
The quarterback position needed to be filled by the coaching staff, since they only had two scholarship options on the roster, with Kevin Sperry and Jaden O'Neal. While some fans wanted to see Sperry as the starter (he still can be), they needed depth at the position.
The Seminoles went to the portal to hopefully find their guy at quarterback, as UNLV's Anthony Colandrea, Florida's DJ Lagway, and Auburn's Ashton Daniels visited Tallahassee.
Obviously, as you know by now, Daniels was the choice with the coaching staff to join the quarterback room. However, Colandrea and Lagway were intriguing options that the fan base had mixed feelings about (they even had feelings about Daniels, who ended up with Florida State).
Some individuals wanted Florida's DJ Lagway to commit to Florida State. Even though he had a slew of turnovers in Gainesville over the past two seasons, they saw his potential as a former five-star prospect and thought his potential was high.
Thinking about his upside much, as Lagway elected to commit to Baylor recently. However, in today's landscape of college football, it is so unpredictable that the quarterback is now visiting Ole Miss even though he has pledged to the Bears.

Given that Ole Miss's quarterback Trinidad Chambliss had the NCAA deny his request for a seventh season, it looks like the Rebels needed to ensure that they had a signal-caller in place in Oxford. While Lagway isn't the greatest passer, it could provide potential for Ole Miss with life after Chambliss, as well as Lane Kiffin.
This is a situation where I am glad that the Seminole fan base doesn't have to cheer for Lagway, since he was an arch-rival quarterback, and he openly stated that he disliked Florida State. The Seminoles have their position battle with Kevin Sperry and Ashton Daniels this offseason.
