Florida State football fans came into the offseason wondering who the Seminoles would grab at quarterback from the transfer portal. The program has acquired a transfer signal-caller each of the past two cycles with DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos.
While some individuals were excited to see redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry elevate into the starting lineup in 2026, there were only two scholarship options on the roster, with him and four-star signee Jaden O'Neal.
As a result, Florida State decided to add former Stanford and Auburn quarterback transfer Ashton Daniels. This is one of the three signal-callers that they decided to bring on campus. The other two options were UNLV's Anthony Colandrea and Florida's DJ Lagway.
Quarterback target DJ Lagway found another home
Speaking of Lagway, he was one of the more polarizing names in the bunch. Most notably, the former five-star prospect crushed Florida State's hopes and dreams of making it to a bowl game as the Gators defeated the Seminoles in the finale.
Obviously, it helped when running back Jadan Baugh rushed for over 200 yards, but Lagway didn't have many mistakes when trying to manage the game.
There were mixed feelings surrounding the fan base about the possibility of bringing in the quarterback. Individuals saw performances where the signal-caller threw five interceptions against the LSU Tigers, and he looked absolutely lost.
It was announced on Thursday that Lagway is going to be committing to Baylor.

This makes more sense for the Baylor Bears, as they are looking for a spark offensively. Additionally, Lagway is from Willis, Texas, which is approximately two hours and 15 minutes from Waco, Texas.
Overall, Florida State, in hindsight, did the right thing by taking quarterback Ashton Daniels's commitment to ensure that they had another veteran signal-caller in the room. However, I would like to know the potential in the offense if everything goes right for him.
