Florida State football lost to North Carolina State on Friday night, and the Seminoles fall to a 5-6 record, with them now having to travel to Gainesville to face the arch-rival Florida Gators.
Fans are upset with how everything has been going, because many of them thought that Coach Norvell would be unemployed at the end of the year. The $54 million buyout looms over the Seminole faithful, as it likely became a big reason why the head football coach is still in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles are allowed to get better over time, as Florida State has a combined 7-17 record over the past two years, so a reflection of the program has to be examined.
However, Norvell's coaching staff has been heavily criticized too. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has been a topic of discussion to leave for Arkansas, since he is from that area, and defensive coordinator Tony White was once a name to monitor with the vacant UCLA head football coach spot.
Coach White seems to be a scapegoat for the fan base, must like previous coordinator Adam Fuller. However, his defense wasn't the sole reason that the Wolfpack won the game. They only had 286 total yards of offense (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
However, scoring 11 points to a defense that has allowed the most passing yards per game in the country seems to be an offense that is unforgivable. Coach White was asked about the job security of himself being in Tallahassee in 2026. He genuinely seemed surprised that the reporter asked about it and focused the attention on watching his son play down the road at Maclay School.
Overall, if the defense were able to pick up more pass rushers and linebackers via the transfer portal and recruiting rankings, they could be a very good defense in the 3-3-5 scheme.
