Can Mike Norvell get this mess turned around at Florida State?

This could get interesting for Mike Norvell.

FSU FOOTBALL STRUGGLES

Florida State lost to Pittsburgh by a score of 34-31 in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium. This marks the third straight loss for the Seminoles, as the disappointments continue to occur. This is frustrating for the fan base that just witnessed a 2-10 season in 2024.

This year was supposed to be something entirely different. However, this has left many searching for answers, including head football coach Mike Norvell.

This is not an opportunity for me to humiliate a coach when he is down. Coach Norvell understands that it is a disappointing process, and he knows that there is a standard at Florida State. It should not be surprising that the expectation is to compete for championships.

COACH NORVELL LOOKING HIMSELF IN THE MIRROR

Norvell is 36-30 through his six years at Florida State, and it looks like some of the same issues have plagued him in 2025. The fan base saw true freshman quarterback Mason Heintshuel and running back Desmond Reid carve up the Seminoles' defense, while the offense looked abysmal at times without having some of their playmakers due to injury.

With that said, individuals are looking for a new voice in Tallahassee, as some are exhausted with the efforts that Norvell has made. This coaching staff continuously preaches about adversity and response, but the words never translate into action.

The hypothetical hot boards are starting to be released, as the fan base is salivating over a new coach at Florida State. However, the important question is: Can Coach Norvell get this mess turned around at this university?

This isn't an opinion of suggesting that this squad can win out the rest of the way (because fans would excuse someone for having their homer glasses on), but the contests between Stanford, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and even a struggling Florida State could give the Seminoles faith in a potential 7-5 season.

Is 7-5 the standard here at Florida State? No. However, the administration also has to weigh risk and reward for keeping Coach Norvell after the result (if they did go 7-5). Here's to hoping that the Seminoles run the table and beat Clemson and those pesky Florida Gators.

Whoever wears the Garnet and Gold, we will try our best to support them.
