TOO MUCH RELIANCE ON TRANSFERS?
Florida State's coaching staff wants to gain more momentum on the recruiting trail at various positions for the 2026 recruiting cycle. The Seminoles finished the 2024 season with a 2-10 record, so there needs to be an influx of talent to ensure that it never happens again.
The program hit a huge reset button on the roster this year, where they filled many holes with pieces from the transfer portal. That is, unfortunately, the reality of today's landscape of college football.
The Seminoles' 2026 recruiting class took a huge hit as four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel de-committed from Florida State and is now with the Michigan Wolverines. I don't blame the talented signal-caller for going elsewhere since offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's offensive scheme did not fit his play style.
OPTIONS ON THE QB BOARD
With that said, the options on the target board have to be expanded.
The Seminoles got some good news on Thursday afternoon as On3's Steve Wiltfong reported that Class of 2026 Houston five-star quarterback commit Keisean Henderson from Spring, Texas, will be taking an official visit to Florida State from June 9-11.
COULD THIS BE A WASTE OF TIME?
While this should be a long shot for the program, I am glad that they are taking a chance on getting him on campus to see what happens. The Seminoles' coaching staff is at least giving themselves options at the quarterback position.
Other targets, such as four-star Landon Duckworth, will be officially visiting June 13-15, and four-star Jaden O'Neal (Oklahoma commit) will be officially visiting June 15-17.
This could be a situation where Duckworth goes to Ole Miss (where he is crystal balled) and O'Neal sticks with his pledge to the Sooners, but at least the coaching staff isn't sitting there doing nothing about not having a signal-caller in the class.
