There are a lot of bright spots in FSU's top-15 recruiting class. And one player in particular that Charles Power believes Seminole fans should be really excited about.
Power, the national director of scouting and rankings for Rivals/On3, could not stop gushing about cornerback commit Lawrence "Jay" Timmons. The legacy prospect flipped from Indiana to FSU last month. His father, Lawrence Timmons (Sr.?), was a standout linebacker for the Seminoles in the mid-2000s and had a successful 10-year career in the NFL.

"First of all, he's a magnet to the football, great ball skills," Power said. "He is a two-way player in high school, plays receiver and corner, just always around the ball. Great instincts. High interception rate, ton of pass breakups. That's one thing that's really important at corner, the ball production."
Both 247Sports and On3/Rivals have Timmons as a four-star prospect and he is a top 250 player based on composite rankings.
FSU has one of the best defensive back classes in the nation
If there is one area that truly sticks out in FSU's recruiting class, it's the prospects they have landed at defensive back. We've already heard what one analyst thinks about Timmons' potential. The highest-ranked player in the class is composite five-star prospect Chauncey Kennon out of Sarasota. He ranked as one of the top 30 players in the nation and a true centerpiece of the class.

The two safety commits, Tedarius Hughes and Darryl Bell III are players that have a lot of upside based on their length and the level of competition they play against down in Miami-Dade County.
According to the blue-chip ratio numbers, FSU secondary coach Patrick Surtain is by far the most successful recruiter on the staff. The former two-time NFL All-Pro has been mostly responsible for the recruitment of the eight blue-chip prospects in the secondary that are currently on the roster.
