All-time Florida State football player bracket (Second-round results)

March Madness is almost here! It is one of the most exciting college sporting events as the 64-team tournament takes place in a matter of days.

Individuals will be filling out their brackets in hopes of being that .000000000000001% who possess the coveted perfect bracket.

I am not here to break down the current 2025 NCAA Tournament and my bracket, but I want to have a little fun since the college football season for the Florida State Seminoles is a little under twenty-four weeks away from its season opener versus the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Here is my projected field of the all-time Florida State football players (not saying that these are the best sixteen):

(1) DB DEION SANDERS VS (9) LB DERRICK BROOKS

We are getting into the territory where you start to compare apples to oranges. Defensive back Deion Sanders and linebacker Derrick Brooks were both All-Americans at Florida State. Both defenders struck fear into opposing offenses. However, there is a reason that Prime Time is the number one seed. He is the reason that many resonate with the Seminoles and their program, given his impact as a player and a personality. Deion Sanders gets the nod even though Derrick Brooks is a tremendous player.

(5) QB JAMEIS WINSTON VS (4) WR PETER WARRICK

Heavyweight matchups from here on out. As WWE's Jim Ross says, "Ladies and gentlemen, we have gotten ourselves a slobberknocker." Meaning that this is a competitive matchup. Quarterback Jameis Winston won a BCS national championship and a Heisman Trophy in 2013. Meanwhile, wide receiver Peter Warrick also won a national championship in 1999 and was one of the more electric athletes in Seminole history. Warrick was a top candidate for the Heisman until the incident at Dillard's happened. If that had never occurred, Warrick would have won the Heisman. Winston is my pick here, but it is close.

(3) QB CHARLIE WARD VS (11) DB JALEN RAMSEY

This is a sneaky matchup. Two former national champions that meant a lot to the football program. Quarterback Charlie Ward was awarded the 1993 Heisman Trophy, where he recorded 3,032 passing yards with 27 touchdowns and only four interceptions and added 339 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Not to mention that Ward started his career as a punter. Not too shabby. As for Ramsey, the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes still have nightmares about the 2014 matchup where he single-handedly took over the game. He reminded fans that FSU will always be in consideration for DBU. However, in this case, I have to side with the Heisman Trophy winner.

(2) LB MARVIN JONES VS (7) RB WARRICK DUNN

This is the last matchup of the second round. It has been a blast comparing these wonderful players. They don't make many players like linebacker Marvin "Shade Tree" Jones anymore. The All-American defender had to make offensive players ensure that they were carrying bubble wrap when catching a pass over the middle in fear that Jones would have a bone-crushing hit. As for Dunn, the Gators know better than anyone... You will make a mistake when you leave an inch of space for the running back to go through. He will make you pay. With that said, wise men always say, "Defense wins championships!"
