Florida State football is trying to return to its winning ways after finishing with a 2-10 record in 2024. The Seminoles are used to competing for conference and national championships. The program's fan base does not want to remember that the last season existed.
Head football coach Mike Norvell knew that major changes needed to happen this offseason. He knew that it was not the standard at Florida State, but he had to use it as a learning lesson to never happen again.
Norvell fired a total of six coaches on the staff. They went to work during the 2025 recruiting class and were able to flip prospects such as defensive end Tylon Lee, defensive end LaJesse Harrold, and cornerback Shamar Arnoux (among others).
The Seminoles then acquired eight prospects in the 2026 cycle so far. The most recent acquisition was three-star interior offensive lineman Michael Ionata from Calvary Christian School in Clearwater, Florida, which his family members played at Florida State, so it means a ton to them as well.
Florida State fans know that many things can happen between now and December during the Early Signing Period. Recruiting at the high school level is unpredictable as prospects can flip at any time. Nonetheless, I am thankful for the high schoolers that say yes to Florida State.
On Wednesday, the Seminoles got a Class of 2027 prospect to commit to the program in four-star safety Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida. The talented defender came to visit Florida State for the Legacy Weekend event this weekend.

Williams had a very productive 2024 season as a sophomore, where he recorded 35 tackles (one for loss), one sack, three pass deflections, and six interceptions.
The amount of interceptions is eye-opening since new defensive coordinator Tony White emphasizes the importance of turning the football over on defense. I am excited to see Williams develop as a prospect. I know that it is early, but I like the pickup by Florida State here.
