SELF-INFLICTED MISTAKES

Florida State football is still not a perfect product. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why they are 2-9 on the year.

The Seminoles have been prone to making critical mistakes and allowing themselves to beat each other. Even with the victory over Charleston Southern, there will still be moments that need to be cleaned up.

Let's look at the opening drive of the game. Florida State's defense was able to get a three-and-out and forced Charleston Southern to punt the football away. Unfortunately, Alabama transfer defensive back Earl Little Jr. was penalized 15 yards for roughing the punter as a result of trying to block the kick.

I love the effort on the special teams aspect of making a game-changing play. However, in that phase of the game, it was not necessary to extend the drive. Luckily, it did not result in points for the Buccaneers. It is a learning lesson next week against Florida because you don't want to give DJ Lagway and their offense next possessions.

Also, the Seminoles were holding a 41-0 lead in the fourth quarter. Florida State had not shut a team out since 2015. However, the third teamers couldn't hold them out of the endzone as the Buccaneers scored a touchdown with 57 seconds left to go in the game.
