The spring transfer portal window is quickly approaching for a variety of programs as it lasts from April 16th through April 25th. This doesn't mean that players have to know where they are going to commit and sign by the end of that time. It just implies that they have to enter the portal by then.
The roster is not in perfect shape after the Seminoles recorded a 2-10 record. The program likely needs to continue to add talent to remain competitive in such a pivotal season for head football coach Mike Norvell.
So what three positions should the Seminoles pursue in the upcoming transfer portal window?
Wide Receiver
I still believe that Florida State has talented pieces at the wide receiver position such as Duce Robinson and Squirrel White that they picked up in the transfer portal. Plus, true freshman Jayvan Boggs has also emerged as a viable option.
However, injuries have hampered the unit as of late where Duce Robinson, Squirrel White, Lawayne McCoy, and even Hykeem Williams have suffered injuries this spring. During spring practices, the offense has been disappointing at times due to injuries with the skill players.
Even when the Seminoles picked up Keon Coleman back in a previous offseason, he was not viewed as a necessity but he helped elevate the wide receiver group as a whole.
Defensive End
Florida State already secured the likes of transfers such as James Williams, Deante McCray, and Deamontae Diggs. Then recruits such as LaJesse Harrold, Tylon Lee, Mandrell Desir, and Darryl Desir have been impressive as well.
I know that the program had the benefit of bringing in elite pieces such as Jared Verse, Jermaine Johnson II, and Keir Thomas. I am high on Williams, McCray, and even Diggs from the portal, but they aren't the flashy names that the fan base is used to.
With that said, you can never have too many pass rushers on the defense. I would like to get another veteran piece for depth before the season begins.
Cornerback
Florida State did not acquire any defensive back transfers during the previous portal window. The Seminoles did lose quality pieces such as Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, and Kevin Knowles II. This is a big loss for the program that looks to find success in defending the pass in 2025.
Florida State hired Evan Cooper this offseason to be its safeties coach. Veteran Shyheim Brown is returning in 2025 and Earl Little Jr. has continued to receive praise from the coaching staff at the other safety spot.
I would like to see them solidify more depth at cornerback even though I am a big fan of players such as Quindarrius Jones, Edwin Joseph, Ricky Knight III, Cai Bates, Jamari Howard, Charles Lester III, and others.
