FSU football has had several dynamics going on over the past couple of weeks. FSU added several quality players from the high school ranks, with some players on the roster entering the transfer portal.
Four-star QB signee Kevin Sperry was one of the newest additions within the past month. The Texas native was a productive dual-threat quarterback who led his high school to a state championship.
He committed to FSU before Gus Malzahn was announced as the new offensive coordinator, but that didn't deter him from signing with FSU.
Sperry visited FSU for his official visit this weekend and had a chance to speak with the coaches. One thing he got clarification on is there will not be many differences between how Mike Norvell and Gus Malzahn operate their offenses. He spoke to Noles247:
"We didn't talk much about, like, the scheme or nothing like that, but he just said it's not gonna be a whole lot different from what he's been doing at ," Sperry said. "There's gonna be kind of some mix between, of course, and Coach Norvell's offense, because they're pretty similar already."
The crazy part is Gus Malzahn admitted that fact in his FSU opening press conference with the media.
Thoughts
This information is important because there has been some misinformation spewed about the two offenses by former FSU quarterback Luke Kromenhoek's family who entered the transfer portal earlier this week.
Luke Kromenhoek committed to FSU well before the 2022 season when Jordan Travis became the player he ultimately became in Mike Norvell's offense. Jordan Travis rushed for 134 carries in 2021 and 82 in 2022, and Travis was among the top Heisman candidates in 2023 before an injury ended his season and FSU career.
He ultimately got drafted by the NY Jets. Gus Malzahn has had guys drafted who played in his offense, including the No. 1 overall draft pick, Cam Newton.
Luke Kromenhoek's family was upset he wouldn't be the starting quarterback in 2025 because he wasn't ready and chose to create a narrative to cover that fact.
That picture is saying, "Since you didn't want to be a star in this offense, we found someone who does."
