Defensive Line

The lack of depth on the defensive line was an issue that got exploited in 2022, but the coaching staff did an excellent job filling that void in 2023.

The addition of Braden Fiske from the portal, with the return of Fabien Lovett and Joshua Farmer, provided FSU with one of the best and deepest groups at defensive tackle.

Transfer Gilber Edmond provided solid depth at the defensive end, but FSU lost a lot of firepower from its defensive line. Fiske, Lovett, and Jared Verse are guaranteed not to return in 2024 and will enter the NFL Draft.

Some FSU players like Patrick Payton have flirted with the transfer portal, but that may have been nipped in the bud.

Darrell Jackson, Joshua Farmer, Malcolm Ray, and Daniel Lyons provide a solid group at defensive tackle. Keith Sampson will also have a year under his belt as a redshirt freshman. However, FSU has already offered at least one defensive tackle and a couple of defensive ends.

Edmonds, Payton, and Byron Turner Jr. return at defensive end, but FSU needs at least one proven player there and potentially at defensive tackle.
