FSU football head coach Mike Norvell met with the media on Monday afternoon after the Seminoles defeated the Florida Gators on the road by a score of 24-15.

This was a grind-out game where both teams were faced with adversity, given that they each had to trot out backup quarterbacks into the contest with redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker (FSU) and Max Brown (UF).

However, both defensive units had to be on their A+ games as each team had offensive playmakers that cause make the opposing defense pay if they were not careful.

While the defense was not perfect early on in the contest for the Seminoles, it flexed its muscles as the game progressed where they only allowed 232 total yards (the Gators only had 86 passing yards).

While I understand that redshirt freshman Max Brown isn’t exactly Joe Montana under center, he is still a talented dual-threat quarterback that has the ability to be a successful passer.

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and company decided to apply pressure early and often against the young signal caller, who was making his first-ever collegiate start. While defensive ends Jared Verse and Patrick Payton get recognized for having a combined 4.5 sacks in the contest, the secondary also held their own to ensure that Brown did not have anywhere to go with the football.

Norvell spoke glowingly in the media session about redshirt senior safety Akeem Dent’s performance during the contest by stating the following:

"I thought Akeem Dent played his best football game since he has been at Florida State. I mean he was absolutely remarkable. Some of the tackles that he made in the open field versus really talented backs was impressive. I thought he played with confidence."

Dent finished second on the team in total tackles (7). The veteran defender should have also had a sack, which was controversially wiped away as a result from an unnecessary roughness penalty.

The redshirt senior seems to be on a mission as he looks to continue his final days in the garnet and gold. Hopefully, this football team can be able send the Pahokee (FL) native out with a national championship.
