RB Trey Benson

As I alluded to in a previous article, I felt as though redshirt junior running back Trey Benson could have an opportunity to emerge as a weapon in the matchup versus Florida. However, I did not include the former Oregon transfer in my impact players article before the game.

Florida State was trotting our redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker at the quarterback position after Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury versus North Alabama. With that being said, it was expected that the Gators’ defensive unit would attempt to stack the box and stop the run so that they could force Rodemaker to beat them with his arm.

That game plan worked well at times on Saturday. Then Benson ultimately found a rhythm as the game went on. Head football coach Mike Norvell kept trying to establish the running game and eventually it paid off as the Mississippi native had 19 carries for 95 yards and three touchdowns, which included a 26-yard rushing touchdown to seal the deal in the fourth quarter.
