FSU football: Fans react to Noles comeback win over Florida
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football (12-0, 8-0 ACC) defeated the Florida Gators 24-15 Saturday night to complete their regular season undefeated.
The win prevents the Florida Gators from making a bowl game and gives FSU its second consecutive State Championship.
It wasn’t pretty early, as the FSU offense only ran three plays in the first quarter. It felt like everything that could go wrong did go wrong, including some terrible calls from referees that gifted Florida its first touchdown.
Florida had excellent field position the entire first half. They added a field goal and safety to take a 12-0 lead in the second quarter. However, the FSU offense answered with a 10-play 90-yard touchdown drive capped by a Trey Benson touchdown run, the first of three on the night. It was good to see because a decision Benson made early in the game cost FSU massive field position.
I felt good at halftime losing 12-7, and took the lead for the first time, with a six-play 75-yard touchdown drive on their first possession in the third quarter to make it 14-12.
It looked like FSU was about to seize momentum when they had Florida on a third and 12, and they converted the third down to move the chains. Florida eventually kicked a field goal to reclaim the lead at 15-14.
Fan Reaction
The teams traded two punts before FSU reclaimed the lead with a 19-yard field goal to make it 17-15. However, the FSU defense put the clamps on the Florida offense the rest of the way, and FSU scored a touchdown on a 26-yard run by Trey Benson.
Benson finished with 95 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. Tate Rodemaker finished the game 12 of 25 for 134 yards and no touchdowns on interceptions. Johnny Wilson led all FSU receivers with six receptions for 64 yards.
The FSU defense held Florida to 232 yards, just 34 yards in the second half. FSU will play Louisville for the ACC Championship Saturday night.
