FSU football has not generated the same success on the ground this season. There was so much excitement for the Seminoles’ offense to feature its superstar running back Trey Benson, who had 990 rushing yards in 2022.

However, Benson has had his own set of struggles with production given that he has had five of the nine games to have over 50 rushing yards. Unfortunately, the Seminoles were dealing with injuries at the wide receiver position with Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, Hykeem Williams, and Deuce Spann out for the game.

As a result, it feel as though it could have been a prime opportunity for the former Oregon transfer to get involved in the game plan.

However, the Pittsburgh Panthers’ defensive unit did a tremendous job in stacking the box to neutralize Benson given the lack of playmakers on the outside.

Here is Benson’s twelve rushing attempts against Pittsburgh:

•Rushing attempt No. 1: 5 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 2: 4 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 3: 1 yard

•Rushing attempt No. 4: 15 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 5: 6 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 6: 3 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 7: 6 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 8: -3 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 9: 1 yard

•Rushing attempt No. 10: 0 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 11: 55 yards

•Rushing attempt No. 12: 4 yards

Benson had 10 carries for 38 rushing yards (3.8 YPC) before he broke loose for the 55-yard touchdown to give the Seminoles a 24-7 lead with 1:11 left in the third quarter.

With that being said, the talented back has 97 carries for 641 yards and eight touchdowns. He is now 359 rushing yards away from the coveted 1,000-yard mark.

This is truly remarkable given that the offensive line has dealt with a multitude of injuries this season. If Benson could find consistency with productive rushing attempts, this Seminoles’ offense could be frightening to deal with for opposing defenses.

With Miami on deck, Benson could have yet another memorable performance against the Hurricanes. The former Oregon Duck had 15 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns against his former head coach Mario Cristobal in last year’s meeting.
