The 2022-23 campaign was a disappointing one for FSU basketball. A basketball team that was one of the top contenders in the Atlantic Coast Conference has been in a rebuild for the past few seasons. However, there’s a new season ahead. The key for the Seminoles is to take baby steps during this season to become a better team than last year.

The Seminoles finished last season with a 9-23 record and were 7-13 in the ACC. It was their fewest wins in a season in 22 years when Steve Robinson was the head coach. Through the course of the season, it was known that the Noles couldn’t compete with the rest of their ACC competition.

They lost tough matchups against Duke, North Carolina State, Miami, and others.
One of the big reasons behind the Seminoles’ losing season was injuries. It’s important to have your best players available to compete at the highest level. With a few of Coach Leonard Hamilton’s players on the sidelines, he was forced to make adjustments frequently throughout the season.

Cam’ron Fletcher played only 10 games during the 2022-23 season after playing a huge role the year before. Another big loss was Baba Miller, who had to serve a 16-game suspension by the NCAA.

Looking ahead, the Seminoles are ready for a big season. Despite losing both Matthew Cleveland and Caleb Mills to the transfer portal, the team still has key players who expect to step up. Fully healthy, Coach Hamilton is confident his team will start the season on the right note.

The Seminoles play their first of two exhibition games Sunday against Flagler State. Their season begins on November 10 in a home opener against Kennesaw State. The goal of a good season is getting off to a great start. Last season, the Seminoles lost nine of their first 10 games and were never able to recover. A better start this time around could create momentum for the rest of the season.
