During the offseason, fans discussed about the safety position being a reason for concern. This was likely due to the depth at the position. Florida State knew what they had in redshirt senior Akeem Dent, who had been on the team for quite some time. However, how would redshirt sophomore Shyheim Brown perform in an expanded role from reserve to starter.

The Lake City (FL) native has flashed at times this season where you can see him getting more comfortable with each rep. During the Duke game, he recorded three total tackles and one interception.

He intercepted a pass on 3rd & 21 from quarterback Riley Leonard early in the second quarterback and set up the Seminoles with a great opportunity to score. This ultimately lead to a Ryan Fitzgerald 32-yard field goal to tie the game at 17.

Brown is now stacking up great performances for the Seminoles. He has showcased that he could definitely be a leader for this defense in 2024.
