FSU football: 3 keys to victory for Florida State versus Duke
3. Get Pressure on the QB
Florida State’s defense has generated 18 sacks through six games this season. Superstar defensive end Jared Verse has only recorded 2.5 sacks. If you have told me that the former Albany transfer has only accumulated 2.5 sacks through six sacks, I would have imagined that I would suggested that something has gone wrong.
However, the pass rusher has performed well this season. Given the circumstances, he has battled through double and even triple teams from opposing offensive linemen at times. Verse still has an opportunity to make a sizable difference for the second half of the season.
Duke head football coach Mike Elko stated there is a chance that quarterback Riley Leonard plays against Florida State in Saturday night’s matchup. Leonard suffered a high ankle sprain in their loss to Notre Dame. If Leonard does play, he could limited in what he could do with utilizing his legs.
However, if the Blue Devils do not feel comfortable with playing the talented signal caller, they could turn to backup Henry Belin IV. He only completed 4 of his 13 passes in their victory over North Carolina State last Saturday.
Verse could have an eventful night against the likes of either quarterback option.
