FSU football has held firm with the No. 6 nationally-ranked recruiting class for the past few months. The Noles have 21 commitments while hand-picking top targets to complete their 2024 recruiting class. One of those targets is five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray.

McCray is the No. 6 overall player in the 2024 recruiting cycle. FSU offered in May 2022 and got him on campus a few times last year and twice this spring. He attended the big win over LSU in Orlando, but recruiting rules prevented the coaches from talking to him.

McCray hadn’t been on campus since March before taking his last official visit to the Virginia Tech game last week.

He officially visited Florida, Miami, Georgia, and Auburn in June. It was a great sign he didn’t commit to any of those schools while waiting to take his OV to FSU because I’m sure some schools tried to get him to end his recruitment without taking the final visit to FSU.

McCray will announce his commitment on Saturday, October 21st, and it will come down to these five schools.

FSU seemed to lead early in the recruitment, but the momentum seemed to swing to Florida and Georgia.

FSU not getting McCray back on campus over the summer wasn’t a great sign, but it might work out in their favor after seeing how some teams have looked since the season started.

Florida, Miami, and Auburn already have losses, with likely more on the way, and FSU controls their destiny at 5-0 and heavy betting favorites against Syracuse Saturday.

Georgia already has 26 commits, with five defensive linemen in their 2024 class. There is a huge need for defensive linemen, especially difference-makers like McCray at FSU.

McCray had several other five-star players in his ear while on campus last week. Has FSU football done enough to land such a massive recruit? We’ll find out in a week.
