FSU football is coming off a dominating performance on Saturday night, defeating the Southern Miss Golden Eagles by a score of 66-13.

The attention has now shifted to the Boston College Eagles, who the Seminoles play on Saturday, September 16th at 12:00 PM EST on ABC.

Head football coach Mike Norvell met with the media on Monday morning. Here are some takeaways from the press conference:

-FSU played 102 players during the contest, which was the most that Norvell had ever played in a game before.

-First-team defense was dominant throughout the game. The defensive front was a great enforcing unit. Improved communication with the back end of the defense.

-Offensively, they had a great response but had some missed opportunities. They wanted to try and wear Southern Miss down by establishing the running game. He thought the backs ran hard, and the offensive line did well creating seams.

– Boston College is tough and physical. They are led by Thomas Castellanos starting at quarterback- someone that FSU recruited during his process looking at him as a running back/athlete. The defense has to work to contain him.

-This contest will be Boston College’s “Red Bandana Game.”

-Darion Williamson and Deuce Spann were both players that he was proud of. They did not play perfect games. Williamson had to battle injuries, but it was great to see him scoring the touchdown. Spann was transitioning quarterback, but he was referred to as one of the most improved players on the football team.

-He is hoping that they get back wide receiver Kentron Poitier and Ja’Khi Douglas from injury soon.

-They have a really good core of playmakers in Destyn Hill, Hykeem Williams, and Vandrevius Jacobs. Proud of Jacobs having his touchdown reception later in the game.

-Message to Johnny Wilson after drop issue: “Go get better”. Said that Wilson is a great player and he did a good job on his routes. Excited for him to get a chance to respond, he knows what he needs to do.

-There was some good and bad with playing the younger defensive backs later in the contest. Two opportunities for interceptions that they have to finish. Need to focus on trusting their eyes and communications.

-Blake Nichelson really stood out in the linebacker position. He had an unbelievable play on a wheel route. Justin Cryer and DeMarco Ward got some work as well.

-The staff will track how everything goes with safety Akeem Dent after his injury. They were down Robert Scott Jr. and Maurice Smith on the offensive line. Johnny Wilson also went down and was not able to return to the game. They will continue to monitor those situations as this week progresses.

-Hykeem Williams put himself in a position where he is getting in shape. Talks about him having a special future.

-There is an appreciation of where the program has come from. The program-wide investment for Florida State has vastly improved. Believe in this football team, but they cannot take anything for granted. They want to achieve greatness. Florida State isn’t for everyone.

-Darius Washington is remarkable, who can play all five positions. He made a positive impact when they utilized him at the center position. Every running back had a good run in the contest, where the offensive line created seams for them to run through.

-Loves the growth that he has seen from Jarrian Jones. He has had to grow up a lot during his time here. A really good moment with his pick-six, as he has had to battle through adversity.
