FSU football: Major takeaways from Mike Norvell LSU presser
FSU head football coach Mike Norvell met with the media to discuss a variety of different topics on Monday afternoon.
Here are some takeaways from the media session:
-Wide receiver Ja’Khi Douglas will miss a few games to start the season with an injury.
-Four players that play at the tight end position: Jaheim Bell, Kyle Morlock, Markeston Douglas, and Preston Daniel.
-Wide receiver Destyn Hill has showcased it all. He’s explosive, smart, done good things with the ball in his hands. He is a willing blocker, and good route runner.
-No huge impact this week for the potential storm.
-Defensive end Jared Verse plays the game with tremendous passion. His actions have spoken louder than his words.
-Quarterback Jordan Travis is a tremendous worker. He has literally earned everything that he has gotten. He has loved what he has seen and put himself in the position to have the best year that he has ever had.
-LSU got better throughout the year. Will be a challenge for the team. Head football coach Brian Kelly does a nice job adapting to his personnel.
-The Tigers have one of the better defensive lines in the country. He hates that a special player such as defensive tackle Maason Smith will not be able to participate in the game.
-The team continues to seek more guidance of re-evaluation of defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr’s waiver process. He is still practicing and preparing.
-Kickers Ryan Fitzgerald and Tyler Keltner have done a remarkable job. It was the tightest of any position battle on the team. Fitzgerald was more consistent later on in the process.
-Wide receiver Keon Coleman at punt returner is a dynamic athlete. He has great confidence back there.
-Linebacker DJ Lundy has played so much football since his true freshman year. He is one of the team’s best football players and will play a lot. They feel they have three starting linebackers in Bethune, DeLoach, and Lundy.
-Norvell really loves what linebacker Omar Graham Jr. has shown. True freshmen Blake Nichelson and Justin Cryer are going to play this year. Linebacker position has had the most depth since the staff has arrived at FSU.
-Wide receiver Winston Wright Jr. has put himself in a position to help the football team. He had to through a long journey to get back to this opportunity.
Overall, Norvell likes the work and attitude of this 2023 team. He speaks with confidence and is excited to see what they can do.
