FSU football has already seen the benefits of hiring defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. with his efforts on the recruiting trail.

Fans were originally concerned about the recruiting ability of Surtain Sr. early on, considering that he did not immediately get the pledges in right away and opted to build relationships with a variety of prospects.

FSU football has four defensive backs committed to their 2024 recruiting class in five-star safety KJ Bolden, five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, four-star cornerback Ricky Knight III, and three-star safety CJ Heard.

FSU isn’t done at the position group, considering they are still heavily recruiting four-star cornerback Jamari Howard, four-star safety Zaquan Patterson, and three-star safety Gregory Smith III.

Speaking of Patterson, the talented four-star safety target from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida, will announce his commitment on Saturday, August 26th, between five schools: Florida State, Auburn, Michigan, Miami, and Ohio State.

There has been optimism from some individuals that FSU stands in a good position to land his services. It helps to have talented defensive backs Charles Lester III and KJ Bolden, who have been recruiting heavily for the Seminoles since they have committed.

During Patterson’s junior season at Chaminade-Madonna, he recorded 69 tackles and two interceptions. The coaching staff extended an offer to the Florida native on May 11, 2021. The interest between FSU and Patterson has been mutual, considering that he has utilized two unofficial visits to Tallahassee this calendar year.

His latest visit has taken back on June 10, 2023. The good news is that he has not used an official on the Seminoles, and will likely take the particular visit when Florida State takes on their arch-rival Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, November 11th.

With the Seminoles having current defensive backs Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, and Akeem Dent exhausting their eligibilities at the conclusion of the 2023 season, it is wise to acquire talented prospects to fill the void of losing the production.
