Young Players In Secondary

FSU signed several defensive backs in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Interestingly, only one was a composite blue-chip player, Conrad Hussey, and he wasn’t an early enrollee. However, KJ Kirkland was and has made his presence felt since arriving on campus in January.

The other name that’s become common among the coaches is JUCO product Ashlynd Barker, who arrived this summer. The safety position lacked depth, but FSU coaches only pursued one major target from the transfer portal.

That told me they liked the young guys or didn’t think any guys in the portal were better than what they already had. It looks like they were right. The key will be whether they continue to build good days on top of one another this week.

FSU moved Kevin Knowles to safety, and he’s coaching up the young guys. He’s likely first off the bench, but these young guys will find themselves on the field at some point if they keep making progress.

Will other players like Quindarrius Jones, Edwin Joseph, and Jabril Rawls put themselves in the mix this week?
