Special Teams

One of the biggest question marks going into fall camp was special teams. Could kicker Ryan Fitzgerald rebound after a lackluster 2022 campaign?

Would the competition FSU brought in to challenge Fitzgerald do that? I think we have a resounding “yes” to the latter, as Tyler Keltner and Ryan Fitzgerald have been excellent through the first week of camp.

They’ve done well enough for Mike Norvell to give praise this week. FSU also looks to improve at kickoff returns and needs to find a replacement for Mycah Pittman at punt returner.

FSU has some dynamic athletes to trot out there for both positions. Deuce Spann, Trey Benson, Keon Coleman, Destyn Hill, and Winston Wright Jr. are some of the players we’ve seen in those positions.

We saw what Benson can do as a kickoff returner against Boston College last season. Winston Wright Jr. was a proven commodity at West Virginia. Hill and Spann have incredible speed, with the latter getting praise from Mike Norvell earlier in the week.
