FSU football had been riding a wave of momentum over the past couple of months. They have received double-digit commits for the 2024 class, including three-star safety Rydarrius Morgan on July 4.

Many FSU fans saw the three-star ranking and wrote him off, but it was clear he was an underrated player after turning on the film.

That assessment rang true when smoke came regarding a potential flip to the home state Alabama Crimson Tide. A flood of crystal ball predictions for the flip came in the past 24 hours, and Morgan made it official Wednesday afternoon. He announced the flip via a graphic on his social media account below:

Morgan is a solid player with excellent speed and instincts, but FSU landing five-star players Charles Lester III and KJ Bolden over the last two weeks helped soften the blow quite a bit. The loss drops FSU football one spot in the national recruiting rankings at No. 5, with 21 commitments.

It makes sense because Morgan had visited Alabama and received an offer one week before receiving the FSU offer. He’s the second safety in their recruiting class, and it’s the in-state team. FSU signed a ton of defensive backs that can play safety in the 2023 recruiting cycle, so landing another safety besides KJ Bolden and FSU commit CJ Heard isn’t a necessity.

They can use that spot for another position of more importance or circle back to three-star Gregory Smith, who had shown interest in FSU and delayed his commitment date earlier this month. FSU is also in heavy pursuit of four-star defensive back Jamari Howard.

Howard is a major target, but we’ll see how active FSU decides to get with other targets during the season. Morgan would have been a solid addition to the class, and at least he’s not going to Miami or Florida.
