UTEP  a.k.a. Texas Western (0-1)

This game happened before most of us were born, while FSU’s return to football was less than a decade old. FSU had finished the regular season 8-3, earning an invite to the Sun Bowl, where they met up with UTEP, a.k.a. Texas Western, in those days.

It was the school’s first game on New Year’s Day(1955), and they lost by a score of 47-20. The Noles were coached by Tom Nugent, who was in his second season, who brought the I-formation and quickly turned the program around.

The Noles had only won one game in the 1953 season before Nugent became the head coach.

Maybe FSU should entertain the thought of scheduling UTEP in the near future so we can get our lick back?
