Four-star DT/DE LJ McCray

FSU football has one defensive tackle prospect committed to their 2024 recruiting class with three-star Jamorie Flagg from Miami (FL). However, the Seminoles want to acquire 1-2 more at the position in this cycle.

One defensive lineman the coaches are actively pursuing is four-star defensive tackle/defensive end LJ McCray from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach (FL).
McCray had a busy summer official visit schedule where he took trips to Florida (June 2-4), Miami (June 9-11), Auburn (June 12-14), and Georgia (June 16-18).

The Seminoles have McCray coming to campus for an official visit on October 7th when Florida State takes on Virginia Tech. This official visit scheduled later could backfire on the coaching staff as he could commit to a program before then.

Will the Seminoles be able to get him to take the official visit in October if he commits to a program beforehand? McCray has not visited FSU’s campus since March. The Seminoles will likely need to get him on campus at the conclusion of the recruiting dead period to remain firmly in the mix.

Other defensive tackle prospects to monitor are four-star Artavius Jones and three-star D’Nas White. The recruiting board is continuously expanding as the Seminoles will have to replace redshirt seniors Fabien Lovett Sr., Dennis Briggs Jr., and Braden Fiske at the end of the 2023 season.

The options at the position are relatively slim, and it has become even more imperative that they land McCray.
