FSU football: Should fans worry about 2024 recruiting efforts?
FSU football currently ranks No. 18 in the 247Sports Composite rankings and has not obtained a commitment to their class since five-star tight end Landen Thomas flipped his pledge from Georgia to Florida State on April 17th.
Should FSU fans be worried about the Gators?
Unfortunately, the Seminoles’ recruiting class plummeted from No. 8 last week.
Fans started to take notice of the Florida Gators’ recruiting efforts after they secured four commitments on Saturday afternoon in four-star tight end Amir Jackson, four-star defensive end Amaris Williams, four-star defensive tackle Nasir Johnson, and four-star linebacker Aaron Chiles.
This is ChopChat, not SwampChat. I don’t want to talk about the arch-rival Florida Gators more than I have to. Especially considering their over/under win total for the 2023 season on DraftKings is at 5.5. So let’s move on to the point of the article.
Should we worry about FSU recruiting?
Should FSU fans be worried about the Seminoles’ recruiting efforts for the 2024 cycle?
The short answer is no.
Head football coach Mike Norvell and the company have done a tremendous job in developing relationships for a variety of highly-touted prospects. The class has five-star tight end Landen Thomas, four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek (who excelled at the recent Elite 11 competition), and four-star running back Kameron Davis.
Florida State has received crystal ball predictions with uncommitted prospects such as five-star wide receiver JoJo Trader, five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, four-star running back Micahi Danzy, four-star tight end Kylan Fox, four-star offensive tackle Jonathan Daniels, three-star cornerback Kevin Levy.
If they acquire all of the prospects crystal balled to FSU, the recruiting class would move up to the second-best in the nation.
Whiffs happen
There have been some whiffs on the recruiting trail for the Noles with four-star defensive end Dylan Stephenson committing to Stanford, four-star offensive tackle Manasse Itete committing to USC, and recently having four-star interior offensive lineman Jason Zandamela getting a crystal ball prediction to USC after officially visiting there this weekend (hopefully FSU can convince him to officially visit this weekend).
Analysis
But individuals have to remember that recruiting is such an unpredictable process, with many ebbs and flows. I believe that FSU is doing fine in recruiting at the moment.
If the Seminoles do not obtain at least five more commitments closer to the start of the 2023 season, then I would start to wonder what was going on. Until then, I would advise you to let everything play out.
