FSU football has several defensive back targets in its 2024 recruiting cycle, with one commitment from three-star C.J. Heard.

There’s a big need for recruiting backs for FSU, and one of the biggest questions is trying to figure out who the top priorities are on its recruiting board.

When it comes to the safety position, the Noles have several with visits planned in June. One of those was four-star safety Kensley Faustin.

Faustin had planned to officially visit FSU on the June 23 weekend, which will feature many of the FSU top targets in its class.

However, that may not happen with his commitment to Auburn Tuesday night. Faustin made the announcement via his Twitter account:

Thoughts

Faustin is a talented player from the Sunshine State, but I don’t think he was near the top of their safety recruiting board. Faustin was a bit undersized at 5’11” and 170 pounds. FSU is looking for bigger defensive backs in this recruiting cycle and had two on campus for official visits last week Rydarrius Morgan and Jiquavious Marshall.

The Noles will also have four-star Zavier Mincey on campus for an official visit this weekend, and four-star Ricardo Jones plans to officially visit the same weekend Faustin planned to at FSU. Not to mention another top target, four-star Zaquan Patterson camped at FSU last week and indicated the Noles would get an official visit.

These guys have more length/upside or are much higher ranked than Faustin. FSU will likely look to 1-2 more safeties in the class, so Faustin to Auburn wasn’t a miss by the staff since they likely were not pushing hard for him to commit now.

FSU brought in several guys that could play safety in the 2023 recruiting class, and some folks think CJ Heard could grow into a linebacker as he gets older. It’ll be interesting to see how the safety class shakes out, but adding Patterson, Jones, or Mincey would be an outstanding haul.
