Jeff Hafley’s defense took a step back last year. They couldn’t stop the run, allowing over 4.3 yards per rush, and had no pass rush. Their ppg allowed increased by a touchdown, and they lost three starters from their secondary, including former FSU safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey.

They lost two defensive linemen, but return their best defensive end, Donovan Ezeiruaku. However, they added a former Michigan DE and an Arkansas DB from the transfer portal among others. Part of their issue may have been how bad the offense was because they stayed on the field all of the time. They should be better, but they’ll have a lot of new pieces that need to gel.
