The 2022 FSU softball team went 54-7 last year but suffered an upset loss in regional play against Mississippi State.

Folks that followed the team closely knew they had an issue with pitching depth, but the offense lacked at times. They didn’t win the ACC regular season title but captured the ACC Tournament Title. One of the biggest things lost in the moment was their record in one-run games.

They were 10-1, with the lone loss being the final game they played to end their season. That winning percentage in one-run games isn’t something that’s sustainable year in and year out.

Fast forward to the 2023 team competing in the Women’s College World Series beginning Thursday night against Oklahoma State. This team has a 55-9 record and won the ACC regular season and ACC Tournament titles.

The 2023 team hasn’t gone without its own set of issues. The offense sputtered at times this year, and it took a while to sort out roles on the pitching staff.

However, when I compare this team to last year’s team, I see some major differences that give them a legit chance to compete for another national title.
