FSU football: Three-star safety Ashton Hampton includes FSU in top six
Hometown Hero?
FSU football has been trying to keep local talent near Tallahassee to stay closer to home. The Seminoles have recruited two highly-touted prospects: four-star running back Micahi Danzy and three-star safety Ashton Hampton, both of which are from Florida High in Tallahassee.
With Danzy, the Seminoles want another talented running back to pair alongside four-star commit Kameron Davis. He will be officially visiting FSU on the monumental June 23rd weekend. However, the Seminoles have their work cut out for them in the recruitment as arch-rival Florida Gators are firmly in the mix.
Another blue-chip defensive back includes FSU in the top school’s list
On Monday afternoon, FSU received the news that three-star safety Ashton Hampton included them in his top six schools list. The list of schools also featured Miami, Florida, LSU, Arkansas, and Clemson. Hampton is the son of former FSU special teams coordinator Alonzo Hampton(Willie Taggart’s staff).
As of right now, he has the following official visits set up: Clemson (June 2-4), Florida (June 9-11), Miami (June 16-18), Arkansas (June 24-26), and Florida State (December 8-10). The LSU Tigers could also get involved with scheduling an official visit, but it is still early since the Tigers just recently offered him on May 22, 2023.
Good news that Hampton is visiting FSU in December?
The good news for the Seminoles is that he will be visiting in mid-December, which will likely be the last visit before the Early Signing Period begins on December 20, 2023. Most Seminole fans thought the coaching staff could not recruit the Tallahassee area, especially after 2021 four-star safety Terrion Arnold chose the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Florida State Seminoles.
Nonetheless, it certainly helps that FSU is still involved with these talented prospects.
Florida State needs to continue to build depth within its safety position room. The Seminoles currently have five scholarship safeties on their roster, redshirt senior Akeem Dent, redshirt sophomore Shyheim Brown, redshirt freshman Ashlynd Barker, true freshman KJ Kirkland (if they don’t decide to use him as a cornerback), and true freshman Conrad Hussey (enrolling this summer).
FSU football only has one defensive back prospect committed to their 2024 recruiting class, three-star CJ Heard.
